Safety plan

Working up a safety plan is an important part of our work in the panels. It's about thinking of ways to keep yourself physically safe in particular and considering problematic scenarios in our everyday lives in school and in the community. This is the short version of our safety plan for young people here in Donny.

  1. Stay with a crowd or where you can be seen
  2. Stay near a teacher if in school
  3. Approach people you don’t know if necessary – pretend you’re friends with them or say hello loudly to a bunch of people who are close by
  4. Avoid your bully or bullies wherever you can – take different routes to and from school if it's possible
  5. To give in to a bully or not to give in? Try to stand up for yourself. But know the differences, for example,  between jacking and bullying. If you’re on your own and surrounded by a group of people trying to take your phone, don’t fight it – look after yourself, it’s self-preservation. But if it’s one-on-one try to say no – walk away if you can. Try to weigh up the situation,  judge the situation – don’t let your fear cloud your assessment of what’s going on.
  6. Try to show your confidence – walking tall, standing tall – look confident even if you don’t feel it

How we are feeling
No need to suffer in silence
